Lansia Fun Day: A Morning of Movement and Care

The elderly

Laughter filled the hall before the music even started. Old friends spotted each other across the room and waved. Chairs were pulled closer together so conversations could begin. This wasn't a clinic visit—it was a monthly gathering people actually looked forward to.

On January 8, 2026, 304 seniors showed up for YUM's Posyandu Lansia. Thirteen were new faces, welcomed without ceremony into a community that simply makes space for one more.

Exercise That Feels Like Play

The group exercise session began with gentle stretches and simple steps. When someone missed a move, others chuckled—not in judgment, but in shared amusement. Hands reached up, feet shuffled side to side, and bodies moved at their own pace. The routine was designed to keep both bodies and minds active, but in the moment, it felt like play.

Bu Sari, 78, caught her breath after the session and smiled. "I look forward to this every month. My body feels lighter afterward, and I get to see my friends. It's like a family reunion—but with exercise."

Health Checks Without Rush

After exercise, participants moved calmly through the stations. Height and weight first. Then blood pressure cuffs wrapped arms. This month brought uric acid testing—a new addition that gave many their first clear look at a health issue they didn't know they had.

The numbers were direct: 185 participants showed high blood pressure. 176 had elevated uric acid. No drama—just information that helps people make better choices.

Midwives and nurses from the local health center followed up with individual checkups. Medicines were handed out based on need: hypertension pills, gout relief, headache tablets. More than 60 percent of participants received something to help them through the month.

Pak Joko, 82, tucked his medicine into his pocket. "This helps my family," he said. "Not just the pills—but knowing someone checks on us every month."

Food Packages and Familiar Faces

Two hundred food packages were distributed on-site. YUM staff delivered additional packages to the homes of elders who could not make the trip.

Each package contained items selected for the nutritional needs of aging bodies: iron-fortified rice for strength, protein-rich beans to sustain muscles, fresh vegetables for vitality, and vitamin A enriched oil for eye health and mobility.

The YUM staff provided more than food. They offered recognition and human connection. For many elders, these visits represented both physical nourishment and the simple comfort of being remembered.

Gratitude

YUM sincerely thanks Olymptrade for their continued support of the Elderly Support Program. Their contribution of essential medications and food assistance makes these monthly gatherings possible. We look forward to continuing this partnership, bringing practical care and human connection to the elders of our community in the months ahead.
