On September 10, 2024, YUM Cipanas held an important seminar for teachers in the area. The seminar aimed to provide a deeper understanding of the bullying issues that often occur in school environments. The theme, “Effectively Addressing Bullying for a More Conducive Learning Environment”, was highly relevant to the current situation, where bullying cases are increasing and becoming a major concern in the field of education.
The event was attended by 46 teachers from YUM's partner schools involved in the Tutoring program. The keynote speaker for the seminar was Mrs. Diena Haryana, the founder of Sejiwa Foundation, who has extensive experience in handling bullying issues. The material presented was comprehensive, yet delivered in a way that was easy to understand, engaging participants actively in discussions and learning.
The participants were divided into four groups to discuss various questions related to bullying. Afterward, two representatives from each group presented their discussion results, followed by explanations and an interactive Q&A session. In addition, participants learned how to identify the signs of bullying, the different types of bullying, and why it happens. Equally important, they were taught how to provide initial psychological support for bullying victims.
The seminar also encouraged participants to establish anti-bullying systems and task forces in their own schools and to begin anti-bullying campaigns. At the end of the session, participants were given additional material on Cyberbullying, a rapidly growing and harmful issue affecting children. Mrs. Diena explained the importance of maintaining a digital footprint and how educators and parents can play a role in teaching children to be more responsible in using social media.
Not only was the seminar beneficial for the participants, but it also had a positive impact on the students at YUM's partner schools. Here are some testimonials from the seminar participants:
- Evi Herdiyanti, Teacher at SDN Palasari: “I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to consult directly with Mrs. Diena about bullying issues. I hope this seminar continues, so more teachers can understand this issue and help create a safer, more effective environment at their schools.”
- Anita Barkah, Principal at SDN Bakom: “This seminar provided me with deeper knowledge about how to handle bullying victims so they don’t fall deeper into despair. I will share this knowledge with the teachers at my school, and together we will promote an anti-bullying culture.”
- Asep Rahmat, Teacher at SDN Cibadak: “Bullying is a very real problem, and I feel that this seminar gave me the understanding I needed to prevent it. Thank you, YUM!”
This seminar is proof that with the right education, we can create a more conducive and safe learning environment for children. Hopefully, similar activities will continue to be held, fostering a generation that is more caring and free from bullying!
