Global Giving, a social networking platform created to raise funds for non-profit projects, was formulated in 1997 to benefit various projects around the world. They have worked to promote the awareness and funding of these projects, and have since aided in the growth of 4,181 projects around the world, and subsequently have raised $47,942,384 for these endeavors. Global Giving was created by ex-World Bank executives as a place where individuals worldwide fought to earn funds from the World Bank but was launched officially due to the necessity for a real "virtual marketplace" where people around the world could donate to projects everywhere. This year, Global Giving has accepted YUM, providing them with a permanent spot on their website, which has proved, in this race to achieve the proper funding, to be a difficult spot to gain.
Membership on the website requires the said project to an intensive investigation, and raise at least $4,000 from a minimum number of 50 different donors in under four weeks. In April of 2011, YUM successfully gained membership with flying colors, only using three of the four given weeks to raise the required amount of money, along with a lively group of 65 unique donors.
In light of the YUM Global Giving campaign, this online platform has helped showcase the projects in the Cipanas YUM Village and CYV Community Library, and will soon be a gateway to present the upcoming projects in Kalimantan. Additionally, the CYV library page on Global Giving attracts approximately one thousand visitors each month.
Finally, the money raised from the Global Giving YUM page will be used to purchase an array of books, magazine, encyclopedias, textbooks, and self-help books to boost the variety of reading material in the library, including annual magazine subscriptions of Bobo, Kawanku, Hai, Femina, and the Kompas newspaper. Furthermore, the fund will be used to buy bookshelves, a reading table set, various educational films, projects to boost creative learning, various library and information center services, and finally, project management and overhead costs which will hopefully be fully covered through the Global Giving page.
